Pedestrian Critical After Being Struck By Drunk Driver In Vineland: Police

A 51-year-old man from Vineland is in critical condition after being struck crossing the road by an alleged drunken driver, authorities said.

Richard Earl III, 40, of Vineland, was driving a Ford Transit Van northbound on North Main Road near East Landis Avenue shortly before 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 29 when Gurmeet Singh was struck, according to Vineland Police.

Singh was airlifted to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, police said. He was listed in critical condition on Friday, March 1, police said.

Investigators determined Earl was driving under the influence of alcohol, police said.

Earl was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, possession of open alcohol containers in a vehicle, consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle and driving a vehicle while unlicensed, according to police.

The investigation is ongoing.
